Steinbrenners to Sell Yankees to Dolans

That was the headline on the blog site this morning and I nearly fell out of my chair. Then I remember the date and was flushed with relief that this was an obvious April Fools joke. But it was in that moment of a couple seconds that got me thinking how lucky we as Yankee fans really are to have an owner(s) like the Steinbrenners. For all the crap that we've tolerated over the years from George...being suspended twice by baseball, the Winfield scandal, changing managers like most people change underwear, the constant demand to win, calling out players and managers through the press, the hands-on style, etc. We would gladly accept all of that over anything the Dolan family would do. The Dolans own the Rangers and further explanation is needed.

So let me take this moment to say "Thank You" to the Steinbrenner family for maybe not doing it right all the time, but for at least always trying to win and make the fans happy...and for being light years better than the Dolans.

You make a good point about the Steinbrenner reign as owner of the Yankees. Prior to George buying the team, the Yankees were part of CBS and were treated just like another one of their bureaus. The minor league system was void of any real prospects, the minor league parks were a mess and the quality of players coming to the Yankees was a joke. All one has to do is look at the fact the team relied on Horace Clark at second and a revolving door at third that included "can't miss prospect" Cerino Sanchez - who may have gotten into three games at the major league level.

Since the Steinbrenner family has owned the team, they have had a degree of excellence unmatched by any professional team at any sport.

I can't believe this guy. Nick Johnson gets hurt before the second game of spring training, now he gets hurt the last game of spring training and will probably miss opening day. He fouled a ball off his kneecap. He was helped off the field but no word on how serious it is. So much for limiting his injury risk by only DH'ing him. Carl Pavano is injured less than he is.

Just saw a very interesting chart that supports how poor Jorge is at calling games.

Looking at CC, AJ, and Andy they measured K's per 9IP, BB per 9IP, and K/BB ration. It was how the pitcher did when Jorge caught, vs Molina vs. the pitcher's career avg.

In each case, Jorge was by far the worse game calling (fewer K's, more walks, poor ratio). When Molina caught everyone did better than their career average in each category.

Here is the link to iYankees blog with the graphic:

Give it a look, pretty interesting.
