Good Series Concludes With a Win

2 wins both by a run. I don't have the exact numbers but would submit that in the prior 4 seasons, a tied game 8 innings in, the Yanks record is probably under .500 - so far so good on that front.

Bull Pen doing a great job - Phil Hughes was impressive.

The return of small ball? Two clutch bunts late in the game set the table for the win.

The one reason why I've always liked Giambi is how productive he is with every chance he's given. No matter what the numbers say, the guy always seems to work a count full, takes a walk, pulls a Don Baylor and leans into an occasional pitch or like tonight, a sac fly. Not always going to help his avg. - but finds a way to help the team.

A-Rod is trying too hard right now, and Abreu is on his way to the monster season I said he'd have.

Bring on the Rays.

Yankees take two of three and regardless of what you think about Mussina, that had three good pitching outtings. Toronto's pitching was also strong. The Yankee offense was significantly silent during the games scoring eight runs in three games is not an offensive display. The series points out that very good pitching will silence the bats (regardless of what team is playing offensively). This series also raises an interesting scenario that if Toronto's pitching stays healthy, they will chanllenge in the East.

1 - Shelly Duncan, love him as a player, dumb as a rock. Had he just took the suspension he'd be almost through it now.

2 - I love the Royals.

3 - Abreu is the man

4 - The Jays will be the Wild Card as I previously noted.

I don't think Duncan has seen any playing time yet.

The Rays are better than Royals...well, only if Kazmir can make a start.

The Jays will only contend if they can start winning those 1 run games against the contenders. I'm glad the Yanks came out on the right side of those games this time.

That was my point. If he wasn't going to be playing anyway, why not just shut up and serve the suspension. By the time the penalty is done, Giambi will need a break in the field anyway. Now, it is delayed.

The Mets will win tonight (Maine), lose on Saturday (Pelfrey) and win the rubber game on Sunday which is a teriffic matchup between Santana and Smoltz. Old Lion vs. Young Lion.

David Wells is lurking out there. Not a bad pick up if the Mets choose to test the wire. I think that it will be contingent upon how well Pelfrey pitches on Saturday. He is going to get rocked by Atlanta...

57, if Wells ends up pitching for the Mets, I will come out of retirement and sign a free agent contract (physically I am in better shape and can probably throw a little bit harder than he can).

Don't be surprised if the Yankees are again rained out against the Rays tonight. Schedule marker should be taken out and flogged.

Clemens is out there too! Can you imagine? Petitte vs. Clemens in the Subway Series? Where would MacNamee sit?

by the way, you guys watch the Yankees more than I do..(or care to), but was Jeter's bunt something he did on his own, or something from the bench. My take is he did it on his own... I dont see a manager letting an RBI guy take one for the team...

He was showing off for Pettitte

I think Jeter dropped that bunt on his own. I don't consider Jeter an RBI guy, he puts the ball in play but has a propensity to hit into the DP. It was a smart safe play.

57 Smoltz may not be off the DL by then, but it would be a great pitching match up.

Boy does Hawkins suck, or does he suck.

Not sure why, but it always seems that a pitcher needs a year of transition when putting on the pinstripes.

You take out Hawkins numbers and the bull pen is looking good. Ross O - put in a sharp performance - expect to see him in the starting ro before Joba.

Actually Mid, the Yankee brass feel that Ross O's stuff translates much better to the bullpen then it does as a starter. Expect to see him in the eighth inning role once Joba joins the rotation.

I'm still high on Girardi, but I don't remember Torre calling in sick one time in 13 years and Girardi has done it twice in his first week. What is this junior high? Man up Joe, and get back on the bench.

This just in, Toronto is for real.

Mets can buy a hit today. Santana pitching well.. not great, but good enough to keep these guys in the game.

Jose Reyes does not look good AT ALL to start the year.
