She's Singing, And We Hear Her Loud And Clear . . .

To me, there's one play this weekend that summed up the entire 2008 Yankee season.

Saturday, I think around inning 7, Rasner pitching great, 6-2 comfortable lead, runner on 1st when a ordinary ground ball was hit to Cano for what should be a double play. He nonchalantly pitches the ball to Jeter off target and in the dirt. No outs recorded, the Jays promptly turn the gift into a big inning and go on to win the game.

The talent has always been there, the mental sharpness and discipline to execute has not. Thus the 7 game deficit for the Wild Card and the 12 game, ocean wide gap between us and the Rays.

With the errors, the low BA with RISP, the lack of a pulse, it is frustrating. It is a season of what could-have-beens.

So, let's make the call official: No October for the first time in 13 seasons.

Thank God we have football kicking off in a few days.

In the win over the Tigers, Cano had another lack of effort to turn a double play and it led to a six run inning by the Tigers. Someone needs to take this kid to the woodshed.

Call-ups were surprising or should I say it was surprising to see who did not get called up: No Hughes, No Cabrera and No Kennedy. Interesting. Phil Coke pitched well in hia debut.

You know I'm the most optimistic guy on this blog so I refuse to call it a season yet. Miracles can happen....teams can tank (see the '07 Mets)...but I will admit that it doesn't look good.

Cano needs Larry Bowa back to get in his grill...or at least Posada on the active roster to smack him around when he gets lazy. I still think this kid is going to be Rod Carew with more power...I would NOT give up on him.

I have thought long and hard, and I have decided that I hope Cashman does not return. Let him go to Seattle or Philly and lets give the job to Damon Oppenheimer or even better yet, Stick Michael.

Bring back the Stick.

Actually saw Melkey play on Friday with SWB - no life. Who does have life though is Justin Christian and Shelley Duncan. They were running all over the field and you could tell they want to get back to the show. Victor Zambrano pitched, he's a waste of a roster spot in my view.

Didn't know Chamberlain was back - I totally missed it.

Two items of interest circulating out of New York. First it appears the Steinbrenner brothers have agreed they both want Cashman back. The second item seems to indicate Joba is to be in the pen for a good portion of the 2009 season as well. If they don't have him in the rotation at the start, the door is open for a number of different options (Mussina 2009??).

The Yankees may have actually found a young lefty that can get the job done. I realize that Phil Coke has only appeared in two games, but in four innings of work has allowed only one hit. He throws strikes and challenges hitters.

Pavano seemed to pitch well until the fifth inning.

Mid, the GOP VP candidate seemed to hold her own. Only concern relates to a speech to divinity students she delivered: "American Troops have been sent to Iraq on a mission from God". Not a wise thing to say when the Muslim world is paranoid about our intentions and believe this whole thing is a continuation of the Crusades.

Support the Troops
