The Yankees showed some life late last night, coming up for 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th off one of the best closers in the game, Joe Nathan, and steal a win from the Twins. The Yankees have now won 5 of 7, including 3 in a row.
A lot of good things happened last night: Gardener coming up big. Melky doesn't suck. He has conintued his hot April well into this month and came up with the game winning hit last night. Even Teixeira came through with a key base hit in the 9th. Hughes didn't pitch great, but he didn't break and give up that big inning, he may have turned a small corner with that outing. That 2nd Morneau HR was a blast (reached the second deck). I don't think we will see anyone reach the third deck in the new House. The bullpen didn't implode, that's always a good thing.
Not so good: Alex looks a little lost at the plate, but I would imagine that will go away over the next couple of games (let's remember he had a very limited spring training). The Yankees still are leaving a ton of runners on base in big situations. Outside of CC, the starters are not giving them a lot of length in the games on a consistent basis. I think Hughes only went 4 innings. This will no doubt burn out a bullpen over the course of the year. Starters need to start lasting 6+ innings.
Joba gets the start this afternoon, looks like he will do a simulated inning in the pen before coming out in an effort to avoid the recent first inning struggles.
Inury updates: Wang gets a second start at AAA Scranton today. If he performs well he could be out soon. Bruney is also in Scranton and will pitch today in relief. He could be up by Tuesday if all goes well.
Feel good story of the week: Brett Gardener receives a bracelet from a little girl at the Children's Hospital and she tells him he will hit a home run if he wears it. He wore it and hit an inside the park home run.
I have no idea where Mid has gone, but I couldn't take it any longer and needed to start a new thread.
