Loved the way Carter played the game. I'm sure MLB Network will be doing tributes to him this weekend. I know I'll watch some of it.
I had thought Carter was doing better recently, at least that was the impression he gave. He was in the running last year for the Mets managerial job until they gave it to Terry Collins. The Mets better have a Gary Carter day this year.
Multiple sources have the Yankees adding 2 bats: Ibanez and Chavez. Which means the deal with AJ will get done. While I think Ibanez would be a great fit for the Yankees...I kind of what to see Damon back in pinstripes. I think Damon would have the same power numbers, better average, and better speed. He would also see more pitches and probably strike out less than Ibanez. However, Ibanez can at least still play the field. Damon cannot.
Yankees and Pirates have agreement. Yankees pay $20MM of remaining $33MM. AJ takes physical Sunday. Yankees get 2 low-level minor leaguers (they don't even get the label "prospect").
Possible bad sign for the Yankees. Pineda came into camp weighing 280!!! Last year he was listed at 260. He said he wants to drop about 10 pounds during camp. This kid can't be that heavy already. He's going to wear out quick in the Bronx heat and humidity come July and August.
The other team in the AJ trade was the Philadelphia Phillies. Phillies would have traded or released Joe Blanton. Not sure that is an upgrade Blanton over AJ. I do not have word what the Phillies we'd offering In return or how much $ would have been taken on by the Yankees.
Crash, I would have taken the Blannton Trade. The two minor leaguers the Yankees received are not even in the top twenty prospects of the Pirates system. In addition, the Yankees pick up twenty million of AJ's salary. Which now means the Yankees have 13 million they can spend over the next two years to sign two bats. They must really have wanted to get rid of AJ.

Gary Carter had been battling brain cancer for a long time. His never give up spirit probably kept him going as long as it did.
Glad he made it to the HOF while he was still alive.

Looks like the AJ deal has been agreed upon...Yankees and Pirates will send it to the commissioners office later today for approval.
